Organic Cotton Scarf

Here is a great scarf that is made out of Organic Cotton Yarn.  The yarn used is naturally grown without the use of chemicals.

I handknitted this scarf myself and the color used is Pecan.  Great scarf for individuals that love products used organically.

Halloween Costume – Cog

Cheese Cog Costume

Disney’s Toontown Character

The costume that was requested for me to create is a cheese cog head that can be seen on toontown, www.toontown.com.

We ventured out on the weekend to collect pieces of the cheese cog suit.  We found substitutions for the suit as we collected each piece of clothing.  The thift store didn’t have a big selection of clothing however we did find a white short sleeved t-shirt for $2.99.  We already had a black tie to add to the outfit.

Then we went to Joann’s fabric to find a suit for the character.   We were unsuccessful in finding a suit pattern for the size we wanted therefore I decided to use a pattern for a shirt and pant that would be fine to use.

The pattern I chose was McCalls pattern number 3416, here is the link to the pattern: http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M3416.htm?search=3416&page=1.

We then gathered up the notions that were required for the pattern and the fabric we chose for the pattern was brown with some black specs throughout the fabric.  To make the head we bought some green foam from Joann’s.

3 yards of fabric at 3.75/yrd

1.25 yrds of 1/2″ green foam at 9.99/yrd

green gloves/mitts 1.00

Pattern Cost: $6.30 on sale.

then all the notions, elastic, buttons etc.

Great price for the amount it would cost for an actual suit to create.

We also purchsed a pair of black running shoes at Payless shoes, on sale, $10.50.  The shoes can be worn all year round.

Here is a picture of the pieces we have collected already.  Reminds me of the game collecting clothing for your character, we are collecting pieces for the costume.

Royalty Cable Tank Top – Handknitted

Knitting with a Vision

A few weekends ago I decided I was going to handknit a cable tank top for myself.  I had a pattern done already in a different size for the type of design I used for the tank top.  I recalculated my stitches to fit myself and used larger size knitting needles because I wanted the arm hole area fitting lower.  Like those 80’s tops that fit loosely so you can wear a tank top underneath.

I chose royal blue for the yarn because of the rich color texture it brings within each design I create.  I have various other pieces made up of this type of yarn.  I added a silver scarf I handknitted to accessorize my tank top.   The silver and the royalty add a great combination of style when worn together.  Sewn on the scarf is a lacey black rose.

I decided to make it a weekend project and completed within a weekend time frame.  When I set my mind to it I finish what comes to mind and go forth with it until the piece is completed.

Now if I can just keep up with my pattern making in that type of fashion.

Here are some photos of my creation.

Crafters Work At Home – Ning Site

Crafters Work At Home Social Networking Site

CWAH

CWAH is now up and a work in progress.  I wanted to create a social networking site for others to share their every day tasks or just to interact with one another that have similiar stories.  CWAH is more then just about crafters working from home but how these individuals juggle everyday life and try to branch off onto various other business ideas in order to succeed online.

Daily life and work at home projects are all time consuming however there also needs to be a me time.  I sometimes forget that I need to just relax and find a place to go for socializing with the same interests.  I love reading other people’s stories about how they work to juggle all the tasks that they do in a day.   Makes me realize I’m not the only one going through various  obstacles and how we can make it through our endeavors in ways we thought we couldn’t master or succeed.

If you would like to support Crafters Work At Home please feel free to sign up http://craftersworkathome.ning.com/.

Alaskakreations – Beadwork Jewelry

Touch of Nature

I am a person of nature and love the outdoors.  When I was younger I would play outside in my small hometown and enjoy blue berry picking, going to the cottage and the many outdoor activities that always kept me active.

I wanted to find some nature jewelry that had the feel of nature with great detail of uniqueness that had a touch of the outdoors artistic side for each piece that I sought out for.

I am a big fan of polar bears and my husband loves eagles.  I was able to find both of these animals in Alaskakreations etsy shop.

They are a ‘Mom & Pop’ store in Alaska and I was very touched and inspired by her way of life when I read her story from her profile.

My dream is to be able to succeed with my craft in away I can support my family in my small town that I grew up in.

Here are some pictures of her beaded jewelry I just adore.

Goth At It’s Best – MTCoffinz

Crafters have various ways to create their fabulous designs in their own unique ways and MTCoffinz’s Goth Tutu’s are all done by hand.  The time that goes into each stitch to make these tutus brings elegance and quality to the goth look.

The colors that are chosen for her tutus add a style of their own with each tutu she designs.  Her sense of color combination makes her tutus look fashionable which looks gorgeous on her models in her photos.

Here is her amazing but yet inspirational story.  Read on for more.

MTCoffinz’s Gothic Bridal Skirt

 floor length tulle tutu skirt

Gothic Bridal skirt

Gothic Bridal skirt

MTCoffinz first started as a side project. I wanted to make a few things a week and have a small eBay store to help pass the time.

Then I realized that when we went to clubs, concerts, festivals…everyone was wearing the same thing from that store in the mall. I found an opportunity staring right at me! So I started making alternative clothes.

In the early days it had a lot more punk and Gothic style, I still love doing really edgy alternative stuff, but the TuTus took over. We make from 20 to 30 tutus by hand every day. I still make them by hand, each and every one!

But that dark and Gothic longing came back and I had to open MTCoffinzUnderground. It’s my Etsy store that leans toward the darker side. We still have all of the Rainbows and Neon goodies, but my personal style is better represented in the Underground shop.

All has been going well over the last few years. We upgraded our studio, expanded our line to more formal wear, and started selling in retail stores Internationally. It looks like next year will be even better.

I know that being an entrepreneur is not for everyone, but if you can do something that you love, and make a living from it, it’s very rewarding!
